In a world constantly competing for our attention with flashy, over-the-top reveals and grand gestures, I often find myself drawn to a different type of experience — one that speaks in hushed tones yet resonates deeply.

I call these moments "Whispers Wows®."

What Are Whispers Wows?

Whispers Wows® are the smaller experiences we create for customers, guests, or friends that aren't the big, obvious "WOW!" moments. Instead, they're quiet, creative touches that catch people by surprise and create genuine emotional connections.

They are subtle rather than spectacular, and that is where the magic begins.

• They create disproportionate emotional impact

• They feel personal rather than performative

• They often are low or no cost

Whispers Wows® in our personal lives

I try and talk and write about ideas that apply to both our business and our personal lives - these days, they so often meld together. In our personal relationships and interactions, the magic of Whispers Wows® often carries even deeper meaning:

• The friend who remembers you mentioned a book months ago and sends you a passage that made them think of you

• The parent who slips a handwritten note of encouragement into a child's lunchbox on the day of a big test

• For a long drive, the sibling who creates a playlist of songs that remind them of shared memories

• The hostess who places a book in your guest room with a note, “when I was in a similar place as you, this book helped me so much.”

• The dinner guest who sends a photo of a moment from your gathering the next day, with a specific memory they appreciated

On a side note, this is why AI, though incredibly useful, will never feel the same or replace authentic emotion.
