Books that Help Me Find Peace and Quiet

Reading for your Morning Routine

I love morning Quiet Time. Dave named it this as when we first met, as he was so used to my whirling dervish ways that when I was strangely calm in the morning, he decided to name it Quiet Time.

Many of you know that I am a fan of Personal Retreats, and take my own several times a year (yes, I am still working on that workbook and other tools that you can use if you do your own Personal Retreat - if you want to make sure you are up-to-date about when that workbook is ready - just click here.)

There are several books that I go back to time and time again during quiet time and during these retreats. So, in this crazy 2020, especially toward the end of the year, I thought I would share them here.

They also make wonderful gifts - for yourself or for someone else.

I recommend getting a highlighter and some post-it tabs and marking sections that speak to you. Here’s the fascinating thing - sometimes I will come back to a book a couple of years later, and those things I highlighted? Those aren’t the words that speak to me anymore. I absorbed and learned those lessons and am ready to accept something else.

Note: if you purchase something through one of these links below, I may earn a small (very small) commission, at no additional cost to you. I promise I only recommend things I use and love.

In this short book, Lindbergh contemplates youth and age, love, solitude, and life during a vacation at the sea.

Each page is a thought or exercise to calm your mind. It always amazes me that if I pick it up and open it to a random page, the message is spot-on.

Dr. Caliandro was the minister at my church in NYC (same church where Norman Vincent Peace was the minister). It’s filled with stories - never preachy - always relatable.

Anything by Andy Andrews, but this is my favorite.

I have so many, and they will all be in the Books section of my Resources page by the end of the year. But, below are just a couple more in case you are in the mood to keep exploring.

Human(Kind) by Ashlee Eiland
The Universe Has Your Back, Gabrielle Bernstein
Outrageous Openness, Tasha Silver

With all that is happening (or not happening) in the world, we must give ourselves the gift of being quiet. It’s the only way we can calm our brains and the worry that is pulsing through us. Especially if you aren’t comfortable just sitting still and meditating, try one of these books - it will help. I promise.

Kimberly Sundt

When I’m not planning my own retreats, I work with lifestyle industries to create on-brand client experiences that lead to simplified marketing. I usually partner with interior design, boutique hotel, and small retail industries. I come in, fix your marketing problems, and then give you the tools to make it work!

But my seasonal personal retreats are my greatest business tool, helping me strengthen my soul and my salary - ha!
